Delicious Dal

This is a great Indian dish.  Went AMAZING with this Avocado Naan and some brown rice (made 1 cup dry to go with this).  Serve with a veggie on the side.  And, you’ll be sure to go back for seconds!

  • 1 cup red lentils, rinsed well
  • 2 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp tumeric
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp salt
  • olive oil, optional
  • 1 tsp cumin seed
  • 1 small red onion (or half a large), diced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeds removed (if you want to tame the heat), and diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced

In a medium sauce pan, combine first 5 ingredients.  Bring to a boil, turn down low and simmer until lentils are soft and mushy.

Meanwhile, heat a pan over medium high heat.  Add olive oil (a teaspoon or 2) if you wish, otherwise, just skip it.  Add cumin seed.  Saute until starting to brown.  Add onion, pepper, and garlic.  Turn heat down to medium and saute until everything is soft.  Add to cooked lentils.

Serve over rice and with Indian bread if you wish!  Enjoy!
