Banana Ice Cream

It’s amazing how processed, frozen bananas turn into the most amazing creamy ice cream texture!!  Please play around with this recipe – you can make it super simple and basic or add more to it!

When you have “banana bread bananas” in your house (super duper ripe, brown bananas), chop them into inch chunks, place them on a plate and place in the freezer.  Once frozen, scrape off the plate and place in a ziploc bag for freezer storage.  (They are also great to use for smoothies this way!)

  • 3 bananas worth of frozen banana chunks
  • Optional: 1 – 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • Optional: 1 – 3 Tbsp honey
  • Optional: 1 – 2 Tbsp peanut butter
  • Optional: whatever you want!

Place the bananas in a food processor and process for several minutes – walk away and be patient.  Once smooth, serve immediately OR add in optional ingredient(s) and taste as you go.  Then serve immediately or store in freezer until serving.  It will get really firm if you store it in the freezer for a while.

I just made this (seriously easy on the vitamix “frozen dessert” setting, no additions in the blender, but a teeny dollop of hazelnut paste (think Nutella) on top. Which may not be as health-conscious as the other add-ins, but is delicious!
